Arrivals and transportation

TRANSPORT IN BORDEAUX

Bordeaux has a good tram and bus system (TBC).  Participants will be provided with a one week pass for the entire TBC system. There is also the posibility to rent a bike (VCub).

Taxis: several taxi companies cover Bordeaux. As a general rule you should order a taxi in advance or take one at the specially assigned place. If you need to order a taxi, please contact your hotel.

The cost of a taxi ride is rather expensive in Bordeaux. Please also note that if you order a taxi the payment clock will start when the taxi is on the way to pick you up (so you will see already some charges).

Taxi/VTC :

BY TRAIN

The main train station (Gare Saint Jean) is located about 2km from the Place de la Victoire. Several trains per day (around one every two hours) go north (to Paris, about 2 hours with the TGV), south (to Toulouse, about 1.5 hours with TGV), Marseille, Montpellier (about 4 to 5 hours), and east (to Périgueux and Clermont-Ferrand, up to 6 hours). Train tickets can be bought here

In Paris, the main station for trains leaving to Bordeaux is Gare Montparnasse. Trains leave at least every two hours. A few trains also leave from Charles-de-Gaulle Airport train station. The train station is located between terminals 2C, 2D, 2E et 2F. From Terminal 1 and 3 there is a free train shuttle CDGVAL to the train station.

In Bordeaux: Buses, trams and taxis leave in-front of the St Jean train station.

BY PLANE

Bordeaux has an international airport (Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport) (code: BOD). Flights are mainly domestic but direct flights to some major European cities or "hub" airports (Amsterdam, BarcelonaLisbon, London, Madrid, Rome, and others) exist. During the summer months, more direct flight options are available. A complete list of destinations can be found here

Traveling from oversees will generally require changing air planes (likely via Paris Charles de Gaulle (Roissy, CDG) airport). During the summer months, Air Transat offers two direct flights per week from/to Montreal (Wed and Fri).

Main airline serving Bordeaux is Air France (or its low cost company Hop!). Other airlines serving Bordeaux include Air Transat, Aerlingus, British Airways, EasyJet, FlyBe, Iberia, KLM, Ryanair, Volotea, Vueling, and others. A complete list can be found here

A regular bus (line 1) runs every 20-30 minutes to the city center (1.40€). The bus stop is just outside the main arrival terminal. There is also an Express bus (Jet Bus) that runs every 30 minutes and connects the airport with the train station (fare about 8€).

The Taxi stand is just outside the main arrival terminal. Taxi fees to Bordeaux are (depending on the time of arrival) between 30 and 40 Euros. The driver may add some additional fee at the end for luggage.

BY CAR

You can reach Bordeaux by car from the north (taking the A10 highway or N10), south (taking the A63 highway), or east (N89 / A89). A beltway ("Rocade", A630) goes around the city.

If possible, avoid driving in rush hours (between 8-10AM and 4-7PM, as the beltway and major roads are usually overcrowded. Parking is limited in the city center. Please check with the hotel/B&B where you can leave your car.

You can use that website to carpool.
